Horace Mann School, a leading New York City coeducational day school serving students in grades Nursery through 12, seeks a Director of Communications to work closely with the Head of School, members of the Administrative Council, and many others across the community, including faculty, athletics, advancement, admissions, and college counseling.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide strategic direction to the Head of School and members of the Administrative Council in regards to communicating the school’s mission and values to the wider community and take the lead on executing these strategies;
Manage all facets of digital communications and social media, from conception to execution to ongoing maintenance; ensure that all website content is current and updated in a timely manner;
Engage with all four of HM Divisions in order to conceive and create high-quality news and social media posts, feature writing, and other content.
Responsible for maintaining website architecture (Finalsite), styles and content management.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Required Skills and Proficiencies:
Bachelor’s degree and 5-10+ years of experience in marketing and communications; direct experience in an independent school is strongly preferred. Skill in graphic design is a plus.
Knowledge of best practices in communications, digital marketing, video production, and website design for independent schools; adept in utilizing existing and emerging social media tools.
Excellent writing and editing skills with demonstrated experience in developing online content;
Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to details;
Excellent project-management skills and ability to prioritize among multiple demands and deadlines
Horace Mann School is a coeducational, college preparatory independent day school for students from Nursery through grade 12. Competitive salary and excellent benefits commensurate with experience. A part-time option would be considered for the right candidate. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $175,000, depending on the experience of the candidate and the mutually agreed upon work schedule.
