Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer and Director of Communications
Position Summary:The Development Communications Manager is a member of Lovett’s Advancement Team, and Communications Team, serving the communications and advancement efforts of the School. This key member produces engaging, informative, and compelling content that furthers Lovett’s philanthropic objectives. The Development Communications Manager will design and execute a strategy to engage all constituents to align with Lovett’s philanthropic priorities. The individual in this position will utilize several platforms, including print, web, and email, and should have working knowledge of best practices for each vehicle of communication. Experience in fundraising and school communications is strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
Works with the Chief Advancement Officer and the Advancement Office leadership to develop and implement a strategic donor communications plan.
Writes and edits communications targeting donors, prospective donors, alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends of the School.
Develops communications designed to elicit philanthropic support for Lovett’s giving campaigns, including but not limited to annual giving, endowment, and capital.
Develops stewardship materials in partnership with Gift Officers and Donor Relations team members.
Contributes to school publications, including but not limited to a biannual magazine and annual report.
Assists with writing and editing institutional messaging related to philanthropy on behalf of school leadership.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a degree in a related field
At least five years of progressive experience in a nonprofit, education, fundraising, or communications setting are preferred.
Outstanding reporting, writing, editing, and proofreading ability.
Stays up-to-date on fundraising communications best practices and industry trends
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Knowledge of Associated Press and/or University of Chicago manuals of style.
Superior client service skills, internally and externally.
Strong attention to detail and follow through required.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects with deadlines at the same time.
Ability to work quickly and accurately.
Ability to work as a team member and display positive behaviors.
Ability to be flexible , collaborative, and work on a variety of projects.
Resourcefulness; creativity; ability to think ahead.
At various times throughout the year, the employee is required to work outside of regular business hours for various job-related functions. The employee will receive as much advance notification as possible for these events and is required to attend them as part of their essential duties.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Experience with Thankview, Blackbaud, or other Advancement and Stewardship focused platforms
Experience creating social media posts
Experience with creative design
