Choate Rosemary Hall seeks a candidate for a Director of Financial Aid and Associate Director of Admission with a start date of Summer 2023. The Choate Admission Office is composed of a Chief Enrollment Manager and eighteen professionals in a range of positions who work in collaboration with other members of the Choate community including form deans, department heads, teaching faculty, and coaches. This position is a year-round administrative faculty position reporting to the Chief Enrollment Manager. The position includes school housing and some combination of residential responsibilities and other extracurricular commitments as determined by the Dean of Faculty, in consultation with the Chief Enrollment Manager.
To fulfill these responsibilities the Director of Financial Aid & Associate Director of Admission:
with the Chief Enrollment Manager, appoints and leads the Financial Aid Committee in developing and monitoring policies and practices.
collaborates with the Chief Enrollment Manager and school leadership to provide vision, strategic planning, and guidance for the financial aid program.
coordinates with the finance office to establish a financial aid budget for the year.
articulates to prospective families the school's financial aid application requirements and deadlines.
calculates financial need for new and returning families that is consistent with school financial aid methodology.
develops a working relationship with families of currently enrolled students who receive or might need financial assistance.
oversees matching of the school's endowed scholarships in collaboration with the Alumni and Development Office.
communicates with students, parents, and guardians receiving financial assistance about their overall Choate experience and to ensure they are properly equipped with what they need to succeed.
liaises throughout the year with the Deans Office, College Counseling, IT, Beyond the Classroom, Health Center, and faculty advisers to best support all students who receive financial aid.
oversees various "need plus" scholarship programs: Choate Icahn Scholars, Andrew B. Noel III Wallingford Scholarship, Gakio-Walton Scholars.
gathers data for board reports and other constituents including NAIS, TSAO, and AFAO
in collaboration with other departments, oversees the distribution of non-tuition aid funds.
conducts interviews with prospective candidates.
reads, reviews, and evaluates candidates for admission.
travels out of state on behalf of the School and plans itinerary, marketing, advertising, and logistics for each trip.
works some evenings and weekends as assigned.
assumes regional responsibility for a portion of the applicant pool: gathers and analyzes demographic research, leverages current relationships in territory, identifies and grows potential markets, offers highly personalized communication with prospective families in territory throughout the application cycle.
builds and maintains relationships with secondary school counselors at established and potential feeder schools and community-based organizations.
represents the School at receptions, fairs, information sessions, and on-campus events to effectively communicate the value of a boarding school education.
visits classes, school events (athletic/artistic/academic), and other functions to keep current on life at Choate.
attends professional development opportunities including but not limited to Enrollment Management Association, The Association of Boarding Schools, and cultural competency training.
takes on other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Chief Enrollment Manager.

At least five years of administrative and leadership experience in admission, financial aid, and enrollment management at the secondary or collegiate level.
Knowledge of and experience with SSS, Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Google Suite, and advanced Excel skills.
Proven track record as a highly collaborative individual in a team-based environment with strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills both in person and online.
Ability to visualize, plan, and execute long-term projects.
Has experience leading, coordinating, and supporting colleagues in a team-based environment.
Candidate must have high energy and the interest and ability to travel independently and strategically on behalf of the school.
Exhibits a growth mindset and willingness to learn new skills and grow professionally.
Driver’s license and appropriate background checks are required.
