WES is looking for a gifted storyteller to join its busy and thriving Marketing and Communications Office. The Communications Associate, reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, will help tell the school’s stories across a number of platforms, including social media, a weekly e-newsletter, blog posts, video, and more. In any given week, you could be accompanying our students on a field trip, designing an invitation for the Office of Admission, live streaming a children’s performance, or making an IG reel to support a fundraising initiative.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious junior communications professional to take ownership of several tasks, while also building and expanding their skill sets in other areas. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Social Media: Manage the day-to-day strategy and execution of the school’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. WES has seen substantial growth in its social media during the past year, and we want to continue that growth.
- Digital Communications: Produce the school’s weekly e-newsletter and look for new ways to leverage it more effectively to tell the school’s stories. Write content for the school blog about events happening on campus. Assist with website updates and e-communications.
- Video: Look for ways to tell the school’s story through compelling video, even if it’s shot on your phone!
- Yearbook: Serve as the yearbook adviser for our Middle School students.
- Other Duties as Assigned: You’ll be supporting a busy and thriving Marketing/Communications Office and will be asked to contribute in other areas as needed. You’ll be working in an office that values best practices and given the opportunity to get involved according to your interests and long-term career goals.
HOURS, COMPENSATION, & BENEFITS:
- Monday-Friday, 8-4:30 p.m.
- This position is non-exempt.

- A comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life, ltd, and std insurance, among other benefits; 5% retirement contribution that transitions to 7.5% after two years of employment; 9 days of PTO during the school year to use at your discretion, three weeks of paid vacation in the summer, two weeks of paid vacation for winter break, and one week of paid vacation for spring break.
- Position is on site in Bethesda, MD. COVID-19 vaccination required.
Desired start date of Wednesday, August 24.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
- 1-2 years experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field. Internships and relevant campus work study count toward years of experience. Volunteer experience may also be relevant, depending on the scope of duties.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to proactively build relationships with faculty and other community members to help keep track of what’s happening on campus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen well and positively represent the school and its mission.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and stay on deadline.
- Flexibility and willingness to collaborate across departments.
- Tech proficiency: Willingness to learn the following products: Wordpress CMS; Canva; Constant Contact email system; Blackbaud Learning Management System; Google Workspace; video editing software of your choice.
- Can-do attitude: No project is too big or too small.
- Ambitious and takes initiative; committed to getting the job done.
