Position Summary:
St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks an Assistant Director of Communications. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to St. Christopher’s and will work collaboratively to deliver content that authentically tells the story of the School, its mission, and values. The individual should also have a love of marketing and a commitment to deliver compelling and informative content that enhances the visibility of St. Christopher’s and builds relationships with all constituents.
Serving approximately 1,000 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s School is committed to cultivating a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming and prides itself on bringing out the best in every boy. Principal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Director of Communications, Administrative team leaders and department heads to create clear and succinct communications
- Build and send all school-wide e-mail communications via Blackbaud or Constant Contact
- Play a leading role in the launch of a redesign of the school website
- Regularly audit the website and obtain information from faculty and administration to ensure that website content, including photography, is fresh, engaging, and accurate
- Actively participate in all facets of School activities to ensure a deep awareness and understanding of the Community
- Provide editorial content and coverage in support of special events, performing arts, athletics and other programs on campus
- Project-manage print, digital publications and campus signage projects, engaging with external agencies, graphic designers and photographers to maintain production schedules and deliverables
- Collaborate with the rest of the Communications team and other offices of the School to ensure the School’s brand is consistent
- Work with Director to develop, implement, and analyze marketing plans
- Communicate urgent/crisis updates to the School community in real-time, including inclement weather alerts
- Partner with StC Magazine editor to provide visual and story content
- Maintain School’s digital archive for publications, photos and video
- Partner with Digital Media Manager on social media strategy and content creation
- Assist Digital Media Manager as staff photographer, capturing moments big and small around campus
- Create executive-level presentations in PowerPoint and/or Google slides
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications or a related field
- 5-7 years experience in marketing and communications, ideally in an independent school

- Impeccable attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a highly productive team to meet group objectives
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Exceptional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience with designing, building and maintaining websites
- Creative eye for capturing visual content in photography
- Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with programs such as Canva
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Blackbaud K-12, Constant Contact, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
- Availability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed
