Summary Description:
The Associate/Assistant Director of Admissions is a member of a team dedicated to the recruitment and enrollment of students who are best served by The Bishop’s School mission as a college preparatory co-educational day school. The position is responsible for developing positive relationships with prospective students and families and facilitating the admissions application process. The position is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with peer and feeder schools. The Associate/Assistant Director is expected to engage in the life of the School and regularly attend School events and functions, and may also serve as a co-advisor to a small group of students, club/affinity group sponsor, and/or athletic coach.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties:
Develop positive relationships with prospective students and families. Assist families from inquiry through the admission and financial aid process to enrollment
Collaborate with Bishop’s colleagues to secure faculty and staff assistance during the admissions, financial aid, matriculation and enrollment process
Ensure the unique strengths of Bishop’s academic and extracurricular programs are effectively communicated in oral, digital and print mediums. Meet with students and families to assess the students’ personal strengths and goals for middle and/or upper school
Manage and execute the student head tour guide program, Knight for a Day visit program, admissions open houses and other admissions events in coordination with the Admissions team. Promote, host and present as needed at admissions and financial aid events, workshops and programs for prospective, newly admitted and matriculating students and families, including various events such as Fall Open House, Athletes in Action Open House, Neighborhood Receptions, Admissions Coffees, Welcome BBQ and virtual events throughout the year.
Facilitate the admissions application process, including partnering with the Admissions Associate to ensure the SchoolAdmin application platform is optimally user-friendly
Conduct campus tours and help manage student tour guides
Assess prospective students and assist with final admissions and financial aid decisions
Assist with yield, enrollment and matriculation of students
Participate in ongoing professional development in support of the School’s DEIJ work
Partner with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice in initiatives to recruit, admit, enroll, and retain a diverse student body
Ensure Bishop’s colleagues understand all aspects of the admissions and financial aid process
Build and maintain relationships with peer and feeder schools
Visit schools and attend school fairs as requested
Participate in San Diego Consortium of Independent School meetings

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of five years’ experience in independent school or college admissions. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. Experience with SchoolAdmin application management system preferred.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
This position is located in a professional office environment and requires working at a keyboard and remaining stationary for long periods of time with repetitive movement of arms, hands and fingers. The employee needs to occasionally move about the building, and position self to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position must have close visual acuity to perform tasks safely. The employee may frequently need to lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
The position requires the employee must remain professional and composed under pressure resulting from a multitude of duties and situations which must be handled simultaneously. The employee must maintain control in deadline situations, be quick to think and respond with appropriate judgment.
