Position Overview: In alignment with SBSTA’s mission, core values, vision, and strategic plan, the Director of Admissions, Marketing, and Communications is responsible for creating and implementing the strategic vision of Sugar Bowl Academy admissions and enrollment. They are also creating and implementing marketing and communications strategies for Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy. Sugar Bowl Academy seeks a passionate, driven, forward-thinking Director of Admissions, Marketing, and Communications who will oversee enrollment, retention, marketing, and communications. The Director will have previous success and experience in developing and executing strategic enrollment plans and will bring a concrete understanding of data management and analysis to the role. They are also responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of SBSTA’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. Oversees development and implementation of support materials and services in the area of marketing, communications and public relations. Directs the efforts of the marketing, communications and public relations staff and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of SBSTA.
The Director will work closely with the Director of Development and Outreach and leadership to implement the strategic plan as agreed upon by the Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees. It is the Director’s job to ensure that each incoming student-athlete embodies all three legs of the school: athletic dreams, academic excellence, and personal growth while celebrating grit, grace, and courage. The Director will be an exceptional team player, natural relationship builder, and will have an excellent understanding of and experience with the sport of ski racing. Success in the position requires the Director to understand what it takes to be excellent in the unique sport, alpine, freeride, and Nordic.
The SBA Director of Admissions, Marketing, and Communication reports directly to the Director of Development and Outreach. This is a full-time, exempt, year-round position working primarily on-site at the Sugar Bowl Academy campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the execution of the Sugar Bowl Academy student-athlete admission and retention programs, assuring that enrollment decisions support immediate and long-term enrollment goals.
Implement targeted recruitment initiatives that account for the evolving needs of student-athletes and families.
Create appropriate admission-related marketing and communication materials for all programs.
Work with the Director of Development and Outreach, Dean of Academics and Student-Athlete Performance, Athletic Program Directors, and the EDHOS to create yearly enrollment goals.
Direct the SBA community in offering an authentic, engaging, and welcoming campus visit experience.
Create and implement a virtual tour of SBA.
Remain current in the ski community and communicate changing demographics and the competitive landscape. Lead the community in understanding these changes and challenges, and rally the SBA community to support the SBA core values to support enrollment goals.
Collaborate with the Financial Aid committee, ensuring revenue optimization while supporting every accepted student-athlete to the greatest extent possible financially.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Development and Outreach and the EDHOS on the financial aid budget.
Work with the systems administrator for enrollment contract generation.
Work closely with the Director of Development and Outreach to create and implement financial aid-related communications.
Collaborate with Program Directors and admissions managers to collect race and comp statistics
In conjunction with Director of Development and Outreach, develop and implement SBSTA’s marketing and communications plans to achieve Academy and Ski Team enrollment and strategic goals.
Oversee the creation and distribution of appropriate admission and marketing materials (e.g., mailings, publications, website, electronic communications)
Plan and oversee content, copy, photos, design, and production of SBSTA publications designed for outreach (paper and electronic)
Build awareness of the SBSTA brand, its mission, and its programs through all viable marketing tools and venues
In conjunction with the EDHOS, supervise all matters involving publicity and public relations, keeping the public informed of SBSTA’s accomplishments.
Create and implement admission and athletic events at Sugar Bowl (competition, signage, etc.)
Manage electronic communications, including updates to the website, social media, and regular SBST and SBA Updates
Ensure content is current with newsworthy items, including race results, college admissions, etc.
Link direct marketing material to websites
Ensure that the website includes current information (e.g., ski team schedules, race information, etc.)
Continually seek to identify all electronic communications upgrade needs or potentially new, more efficient/effective forms of communication. Monitor effectiveness of current communications (e.g., response rates, click-throughs, likes, etc.)
Manage the marketing budget.
Ensuring SBSTA presence at important events (e.g., races, training venues)
Actively promote SBA’s community service, athletic and academic successes.
Collaborate with Program Directors and Admissions Managers to create social media posts, press releases, and updates to the websites.
Conduct market research of the competitive landscape.
Leverage data to understand the strengths and areas of improvement of our program and processes.
Write, create, and analyze survey data to measure success.
Effectively collect, analyze, and report enrollment information to the Board of Trustees monthly and communicate insights.
Use data to inform strategic decisions, establish and monitor key performance indicators, benchmark progress, and program outcomes, monitor trends, identify opportunities, and adjust direction and tactics.
Collaborate with the Athletic Program Directors to create and implement admissions centric camps focusing on building the SBA pipeline for mission appropriate student-athletes
Create appropriate marketing and communication materials.
Work with the Leadership Team to create yearly goals for SBA camps.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience in excel and database management.
Experience with Blackbaud.
Experience and/or understanding of elite ski racing required.
3-5 years experience in admissions and recruitment experience required.
Experience with marketing and/or digital branding required.
Has the ability to travel to ski competitions and camps nationally, and occasionally, internationally
Dynamic interpersonal communication skills to work with a broad range of constituents
