The Director of Communications and Marketing leads strategic communications and marketing initiatives that foster the school’s vision and mission. The director oversees both internal and external messaging for critical school communication and is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and dynamic communications, marketing, and public relations strategy for the School, that supports academic, admission and fundraising objectives.
Communications & Publicity
Edit significant correspondence for Head of School and anyone sending information to a majority of current parents and/or prospective families and the general public for tone, grammar, voice and sensitivity.
Create and maintain a school-wide communications calendar to manage volume of correspondence to various constituents.
Communicate effectively and proactively with all school constituents to identify and develop newsworthy content to showcase through media releases, the website, blogs, and social media that promote student activity, work, events, and accomplishments.
Compile and execute website and electronic communication templates, including preparing and editing Pegasus Post for distribution, and Pushpages.
Serve as primary contact for media personnel and manage all publicity.
Create and maintain the School’s crisis management communication plan.
Website Management/Community Outreach
Direct and maintain the School’s website - ? ?design, content development, and functionality - including internal components of the website portals, in order to promote the visual image and voice of the School.
Keep school content, news, slideshows, photo galleries and videos on the website relevant and up-to-date.
Create content, manage and maintain all social media channels(i.e. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) to share community activities and events with the public at large and monitor key comparative metric indicators.
Document school and classroom activities through the taking of pictures and video and maintain archives for publications and websites. Responsible for photo taking, editing, uploading, editing, tagging, organizing, sharing and archiving all school photos.
Work closely with the IT staff to support website portals. Seek innovative opportunities to enhance the website (videos, podcasts, news stories, photos, etc.), initiate new functionality for the website in keeping with evolving technology, including updating the mobile application website as needed with regards to content, navigation and readability.
Upload photos for faculty, staff and students into Blackbaud. Manage all aspects of faculty staff bios, including information gathering, drafting, updating and posting.
Work with Blackbaud on technical issues affecting the website.
Review, address and respond to email communications received via the website. This includes forwarding to the appropriate individuals for follow-up as needed.
Works with the Head of School Executive Assistant to communicate annually with Pegasus’ neighbors about events and activities that may impact the neighborhood.
Serve as liaison on NextDoor community forum and attend neighborhood community events that occur on campus.
Marketing and Branding
Maximize public awareness of The Pegasus School and its mission and ensure Pegasus has a single voice. Identify strategies for building and enhancing the school’s reputation in the community, including external partners and schools.
Develop and implement a successful Marketing and Communications plan that focuses on core messages, through a variety of face-to-face, online and social networking channels.
Connect with multiple constituencies to support the overall communications objectives. Specifically this includes the Head of School, Head of School Executive Assistant, Advancement, Alumni, Admissions, Academic Divisions, Auxiliary, and Technology.
Set priorities and strategies for the communications, marketing, and events plan, collaborate with other staff and volunteers on implementation, and ensure deadlines are met with quality, consistency, and accuracy.
Lead the editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of print, digital, and social media content to a wide range of stakeholders (i.e. annual report, viewbook, campaign materials, Pegasus Magazine, advertisements, logo design, programs, and invitations and fliers for school events).
Collaborate with the Director of Admission and the Director of Advancement to design strategies and implement concrete marketing plans that support the school’s admission and development objectives, which includes fundraising campaigns.
Oversee all design, including ads and ensure consistent messaging with all electronic and print media.
Research, collaborate and manage all outside creative resources (i.e. graphic designers, contractors, photographers) as well as volunteers, to ensure there is a shared approach for effective communication.
Manage the budget for general marketing and design work, ensuring quality creative content is delivered accurately, on time and on budget.
Work with the Auxiliary Director to create and manage auxiliary (camp, bus, after-school) communications and marketing.
Stay current in best practices in the market, competition and similar schools’ marketing efforts.
Create and disperse consistent style standards and communicate these with employees to create brand consistency.

Required – The employee should have a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or the equivalent. Possess minimum five years experience preferably in communications or marketing preferably in the non-profit and/or independent school sector.
Desirable – Seven plus years experience communications or marketing, including in website, social media and community outreach. Experience with Mac and PC systems, Social Media Platforms, along with print, web and cloud-based software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, G-Suite, and Blackbaud website management). Prior project management experience is a plus.

Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills; willingness to take initiative and strategize. Experience in desktop publishing design and management of design production. Demonstrated experience with photography design, videography, website content management and design, and social media marketing. Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver and proven track record as independent and
