Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Assistant Director who is responsible for identifying applicants for grades JK through 5 who reflect a range of demographics, academic skills, personalities and backgrounds that support the School’s mission. Through the admission process, the Assistant Director of Admission will help the School continue to make progress in recruitment strategies, in guiding marketing initiatives and assessments and in achieving diversity in all areas of admission.
Reporting to the Director of Enrollment and Financial Aid, the Assistant Director is a critical member of the admission team. The Assistant Director serves as an ambassador and an important point of contact for many families interested in obtaining more information about the School. The Assistant Director should have an understanding of and an appreciation for the value of independent schools and progressive education. General duties include communicating with prospective families, parents and faculty. The Assistant Director works closely and in collaboration with the Director of Enrollment and Financial Aid, Assistant Director of Enrollment and Financial Aid, Admission Coordinator, Assistant Director of Admission for Grades 6-12, Assistant Director of Admission for Outreach and Recruitment, JK-5 Faculty, Divisional Heads, and the Director of Communications to carry out the essential functions of the office.
Ability to maintain confidential information
Develop a deep understanding of the School and its activities and community
Maintain a caseload and oversee 250+ applications annually for admission to Grades JK
Work with faculty to conduct 20-30 play parties to assess applicants for Grades JK through 1st Grade and arrange for student visits and assessments in Grades 2 through 5
Conduct individual parent meetings for prospective parents in Grades JK-5
Enthusiastically lead group and individual school tours for prospective parents
Respond to a multitude of inquiries about the School
Engage in recruitment planning for Grades JK-5
Plan and execute admission related events
Easily utilize technology including admissions software such as Blackbaud, Ravenna and Calendly
Coordinate and manage Admission Committee for JK and decisions for SK-5
Maintain and build working relationships with faculty, parents, and outside educational institutions and communities
Attend school fairs and open houses; visit and build relationships with pre-schools and feeder schools
Facilitate appropriate assessment of candidates
Maintain relevant information, data and statistics on recruitment, admissions and diversity
Plan, lead and participate in Admission Office events and day-to-day operations as a collaborative team member
Work with the Director and Admission Team to promote and provide information about the School and actively reach out and cultivate appropriate relationships leading prospective families to apply to the School for their children
Positively, warmly, consistently and proactively communicate with applicant families
Recruit, train, manage and collaborate with parent volunteers to support admissions functions
Be knowledgeable about current educational practices for early childhood and elementary education and the progressive pedagogy, program and practices at Francis W. Parker School
Build and maintain strong connections with Lower and Intermediate School faculty and obtain information about events and programs needed to support admissions
Participate in the life of the School
Be flexible to work some nights and weekends when required

Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred
At least 5 years of experience in K-12 independent school admissions and enrollment management
Proven track record of handling and protecting confidential information
Early childhood education experience a plus
Ability to interact with internal and external constituencies of the School and represent the School in a positive manner and with the highest degree of integrity
Social and emotional intelligence; comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people
Superior interpersonal, presentation and written skills
Experience in marketing and marketing data analytics a plus
Outstanding organizational skills and steadfast attention to detail
Strong comfort with and orientation toward technology
An ability to work with a sense of urgency and grace under pressure
Proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve results
Exhibit strong initiative and follow through skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks and establish priorities and procedures
Collaborative work style with outstanding communications skills and a sense of humor
Must be proficient with data and computers, with special emphasis on all MS software especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Bookeo, Survey Monkey, and databases especially Blackbaud, Ravenna and Calendly
