Gill St. Bernard’s School, an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, located in Gladstone, New Jersey, is searching for an Associate Director of Communications. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director of Communications will help oversee the day-to-day operations of the communications program, acting as project manager for all school communications initiatives including website maintenance/updates and social media. This position is the primary writer and editor of all communications related materials.
Create copy/stories/content about students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus events. Research, interview, write, and edit to create videos and interactive media which captures life at GSB.
Develop and maintain a list of news/story opportunities for marketing purposes in collaboration with the Director of Advancement and the communications team.
Work with the Director of Advancement and the Director of Alumni Relations to develop and write content for the GSB Alumni Magazine including story proposals, researching, and interviewing potential featured alumni.
Work closely with Director of Advancement and the Admission Team to create copy for marketing materials and
Work with Director of Advancement and marketing/communications consulting firm to manage comprehensive marketing/communications calendar including web, social media, magazine, and admissions materials.
Work with the Director of Advancement to write and design major projects including weekly newsletters, spotlight articles, curriculum guide, etc.
Oversee New Media Specialist to ensure all web and social media content, both images and writing, are accurate, timely, and comprehensive. Ensure that the photography and publication archives are properly maintained and updated.
Oversee Communications Assistant & Sports Information Coordinator to ensure all athletic news within school publications and online is comprehensive and timely.
Overseeing the tracking of engagement across various platforms to make data-driven deicsions.
Coordinate the production of all publications and marketing materials developed by the communications staff.
Provide event support for Advancement Office as needed.
Provide ongoing photography of events and activities.
Provide design of various electronic and print materials including surveys, e-blasts, cards, PowerPoint proposals, etc.
Attend, or assign team member to attend, weekly/monthly meetings as necessary including Upper School Assembly, guest speakers, student forums, advancement team meetings, Parents’ Association meetings, and Booster club meetings to stay up-to-date on campus activities and help match the objectives and goals of these groups to the overall communications strategy of the school.
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience.
Experience in a non-profit, independent, or academic setting is a plus
Excellent writing, editing, proofing and project management skills
High comfort level and technical proficiency with print, web, and social media platforms
Ability to organize multiple projects simultaneously with great attention to details and sensitivity to deadlines and priorities
Proven ability to build, engage, mentor, and motivate a talented team of individuals
Basic photography and graphic design skills
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
