Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit is a thriving Jewish day school located in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The school seeks a Communications (& Marketing) Coordinator to join our Advancement team. ?We are seeking a passionate and collaborative individual who? is a self-starter, social-media savvy, a creative thinker, a team player, and a strong communicator. The position reports to the Director of Advancement and will drive the school’s communication (and marketing) strategy, specifically supporting the needs of recruitment and fundraising, website content and social media, and working on PR initiatives. The Coordinator is responsible for capturing campus life at Hillel Day School -- and its stories -- through various media including print, digital, and video. The Coordinator shall enhance the school’s image and visibility as a leader in preschool-through-eighth grade Jewish day school education and be a great storyteller, creative communicator, dynamic in multimedia, and prolific in social media. The successful candidate will be a visible and positive presence at Hillel and support and promote the overall mission and mandate of the school, within and outside the school.
Develop, implement and maintain the school’s communication plan that includes weekly e-newsletters, blogs, bi-annual publications, directories, handbooks, and integrated communications
Shape messages using best practices and identifying the right audience for each communication and adapting stories and images to fit specific communication platforms
Coordinate all communications initiatives including, but not limited to, media relations, writing, editing, digital content (website and social media), internal and external communications
Identify, write, and coordinate submissions for weekly PR opportunities in area media outlets to increase the school’s visibility in the community
Plan for and deploy a relevant and meaningful content strategy that is executed and leveraged across all media channels, with a focus on digital-led delivery and engagement tools (website, online campaigns, email marketing, social media, SEO, blogs, and digital content production)
Engage with the school community on an ongoing basis to create content. Participate in school life beyond daily responsibilities
Edit and proofread all communications for accuracy, consistency, clarity, and style
Support the development and coordination of the annual strategic marketing plan
Write, edit, and post content for the school website, blog, and social media channels, including utilizing SEO, HubSpot, and social media marketing principles to build a pool of prospective families
Manage analytics of the website, blog, and all digital platforms and make recommendations based on the evaluation of said data
Ensure that the school’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) effectively advances the marketing goals of the school
Work across departments of the school to ensure alignment, consistency, and efficiency in all strategic school communications
Distribute emergency text, email, and website messages to faculty, staff, and parent (ex. snow day, lockdown, etc.)
Monitor the school’s online presence, updating information on external sites like Great Schools, Private School Review, Local School Directory, Yelp, etc.
Update alumni database, including alumni, alumni parents, and grandparents, and work with the team to develop and implement strategies to reconnect with alumni, alumni parents, and grandparents, including newsletters and events
Assist, as needed, in writing presentations, speeches, grants, and general editorial content
Become knowledgeable of, and familiar with, pertinent aspects of the school, including its core values, philosophical and pedagogical framework, significant programs and curricula; and of comparable and competitive educational institutions, both locally and nationally, insofar as that knowledge assists in the branding/positioning of the school within the community
Engage actively in professional development in order to remain current in best practices related to independent school communications
Support the Advancement Office with the production of events
Work on special projects, initiatives, promotions, and other programs as needed

Possess superior writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills, with a flair for creative writing and taglines
Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills with the ability to lead and collaborate
A good listener and strategist; comfortable receiving input from many sources, and able to analyze, connect and communicate disparate information
Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with shifting priorities and competing deadlines
Proficiency in computer skills, social media platforms, HubSpot, and online content management systems (Blackbaud preferred)
Ability to work independently; a self-starter with a high level of integrity and the ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion; must be professional in all aspects
Understanding the full scope of Communications work, as weekend availability or access may be required at times.
Emotionally mature with a very good sense of humor and the flexibility and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations
3-5 years’ experience working directly in communications, project management, marketing, or advertising
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent record of professional achievement with a demonstrated track record of success and increasing responsibilities. Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism is preferred
Relevant experience in independent schools is a plus
