As the only high school in New England that is part of a major research university, Boston University Academy (BUA) offers students who love learning both a traditional, caring independent school experience and access to a broad range of university courses. In the eleventh and twelfth grades, students regularly complete up to twelve courses from Boston University’s undergraduate curriculum, earning credit that they can apply to their undergraduate experience at top colleges around the country, including BU, where BUA students in good standing gain automatic admission. The school’s 200 students are curious, capable, and kind. Students come from 55 cities and towns in the Greater Boston area. 57% of students identify as students of color, and 31% of students receive financial aid — a reflection of BUA’s commitment to equity and access.
Boston University Academy is seeking an Assistant Director of Admission beginning summer 2020. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director of Admission is to partner with the Director of Admission to lead and facilitate BUA’s admission and enrollment management functions. Admission efforts include, but are not limited to: representing BUA at outreach and recruitment events; interviewing prospective students; evaluating applications and serving as a member of the Admission Committee; managing student volunteers; communicating with prospective students and families and running the full day visit program; and providing administrative support.
Additional responsibilities may include a combination of student advising, leadership of student groups, and chaperoning events throughout the year, including the ninth and tenth grade fall overnight trip. The role includes significant independent decision making, collaboration with colleagues, and night and weekend commitments.
One to three years of admission experience and/or Independent school experience strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree required
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, strong attention to detail and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
