Position: Director of Admissions and Marketing. The Grammar School is a community of 95 students from pre-K (3 year-old start) through 8th grade, and a staff of 25, situated in beautiful southern Vermont. Our school was founded in 1960 by parents who wanted to preserve joy in the educational process for their children. The Grammar School of 2019 still holds this original mission as its beacon.

Purpose: The Grammar School seeks a Director of Admissions and Marketing to lead the recruitment and enrollment process as well as to craft and implement its marketing strategies. The Director of Admissions and Marketing reports directly to the Head of School and is an essential member of the senior administrative team. As a key ambassador for the school, the director must have a strong commitment to and understanding of the school mission as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have experience developing strong messaging and marketing collateral as well as experience successfully recruiting and enrolling lower and/or middle school students. Teaching experience preferred.
Major duties and responsibilities
To be thoroughly familiar with the value of the school's programs, services and history, including all academic offerings and requirements, curriculum, faculty backgrounds, transportation, PSD and athletics, social/emotional skills curriculum, as well as the TGS strategic plan, vision, and mission
Ensure the school’s program and strengths are well-understood and recognized within the community and potential feeder markets
To sell the school to interested families and students, which includes systematic and efficient handling of applications and communication with parents; interviews with the parents and prospective students; arrangements with faculty for day-long student visits, touring families on campus, and communicating final decisions to families
To oversee the admissions office by directing all aspects of the enrollment process, including tuition assistance, and creating the admissions budget and calendar
To manage the re-enrollment of current students for the succeeding year and implement retention strategies that maximize re-enrollment numbers
To keep relevant statistics on all aspects of the admissions, re-enrollment program, retention and attrition, and report regularly to the TGS Board of Trustees
To serve as the school's primary recruiter and marketer by representing TGS at various gatherings, school fairs and conferences, as well as out in the community
To coordinate the work of the admissions committee in the selection process, by informing the members about each candidate, developing standards for considering candidates, and scheduling meetings
To organize the New Family Orientation event prior to the start of school, including invitations, program planning, catering, coordination with staff/faculty presenters, etc.
To create and implement a family survey each fall soliciting feedback about their admissions and enrollment experience at TGS
To be knowledgeable about student assessments and reporting, and be able to understand IEPs and 504 plans
To constantly monitor the admissions funnel in order to achieve maximum enrollment in each grade and when necessary, adjust the marketing strategies to achieve a fully enrolled school
To work confidentially with the Head of School and Business Manager as a member of the Tuition Assistance Committee to ensure that the school's resources are allocated equitably and objectively
To communicate with current and new parents about the school's tuition assistance program including the process, paperwork and deadlines for making applications
To notify current and new families about financial aid and scholarship awards
To develop an annual marketing plan, complete with detailed calendar, that addresses the school's strategic needs
To create, or supervise the creation of, pamphlets, view book, postcards, print and radio advertising, etc. that informs and excites families about the school
To evaluate the effectiveness of these marketing efforts
To facilitate the Marketing Committee of the Board which is tasked with assisting the director with annual publicity and special events, including the Medieval Faire – Admission Table (October), Open House (Fall and Winter), Area Gatherings (Winter) and the Strolling of the Heifers Parade (June)
To plan and implement recruiting events such as open houses, feeder-school programs, off-campus visits to area schools and businesses, etc.
To work with the school's web designer to ensure that the TGS site, particularly the home, faculty, and admissions pages, all reflect the school's brand, its scope of programs, faculty experience, and sense of community in order to attract new families
Will enthusiastically embrace the mission and philosophy of the school and serve TGS as a passionate ambassador
Is a dynamic communicator and relationship builder who will develop strong working partnerships with members of the school community as well as with the communities served by TGS
Possesses the skills and background to manage both the science and the art of school admissions: a warm, charismatic individual with strong analytic and strategic marketing skills
Is a creative thinker and problem solver who is goal oriented
Has strong interpersonal and communications skills
Is a good team member and an effective, experienced manager
Is flexible, good humored, organized, and hardworking -- who will, when necessary, work “overtime”
