The Green Vale School is a co-educational, independent day school (PN-8) located on a 40 acre campus on the North Shore of Long Island. Approximately 25 miles from New York City, Green Vale has served families in surrounding communities almost 100 years. About the position
The Digital Communications Manager assists in developing and disseminating various categories of School communications to Green Vale’s key audiences: current families, prospective families, faculty & staff, alumni, and the local community. Green Vale takes pride in ensuring that all manner of communications reflect our brand and our values, both visually and verbally. Our communications are clear, accurate, timely, meaningful, and appropriate to the message they contain. We strive to use technology in ways that benefit the constituent as well as the efficiency of our internal processes.
The quality of our communications is often perceived as a stand-in for the quality of everything we do. Successful communications serve to advance the mission of the School by helping constituents understand the value of a Green Vale education and experience the School’s unique combination of warmth and excellence at every touchpoint.
A key communications tool is our website which contains both external and password-protected portal sections for internal audiences. The Communications office also uses social media, email, printed mailings, PR and paid advertising to disseminate messages.
The Communications office works closely with Admissions and Development to “complete the circle” when it comes to Advancement.
The position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications.
Specific functions and responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with Director of Marketing & Communications
Maintain greenvaleschool.org website using Finalsite’s Composer platform. All pages/sections must be accurate and current and adhere to standards/goals for how the website should look and what it should feature from links to photos to videos. (Direction on content and primary copywriting provided by Director of Marketing & Communications; Digital Comms Manager responsible for mechanics/execution and automatic updates of certain pages)
Maintain the school-wide electronic calendar with inputs from academics, athletics, division administrators, club leaders, etc.
Photograph school events; archive and organize photos submitted by others.
Compile and publish “Next Week at GVS” scheduling summary
Create layouts for advertisements, invitations, some Admissions materials, etc.
Serve as a “reporter” at school events: compile background information for articles.
Work with local newspapers and other advertisers to determine ad specs, submit ads, etc.
Distribute and follow up on press releases to gain PR coverage.
Play a role in SEO and PPC management/strategy
Craft logistical and informational emails
Meticulously manage email groups and lists, ensuring accuracy of constituent/directory data
Writing of articles and other materials depending on writing ability
Work with parent volunteers to craft and disseminate fundraising event communications (Spring Gala, book fair, etc.)
Develop awareness and appreciation for all that goes on at Green Vale and help generate ideas for how best to share and inform/engage our audiences.
Compensation and Benefits:

Experience and skills required:
A Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant work experience
A passion for being a part of a school community
The ability to understand the many factors large and small that constitute the value of a Green Vale education
Strong writing skills
Ability to multitask and rearrange workflow efficiently according to priorities
Proficiency with as many of the following computer programs as possible:
Video (iMovie, Vimeo, YouTube, Adobe Suite, Final Cut etc.)
More important than the specific programs is having a demonstrated comfort level with learning new software / technologies and taking advantage of their features for maximum efficiency and work quality.
A strong “visual eye” for graphic and web page design, photo selection, etc. to ensure attractiveness, clarity, and adherence to established brand standards.
