St. Paul’s School (SPS), founded in 1849, is a leading college-preparatory day school in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. The 125-acre campus is shared with its sister school, St. Paul’s School for Girls (SPSG). SPS’s enrollment is approximately 760 students. The School uniquely provides a co-educational lower school experience for kindergarten through fourth grade and an all-boys Middle School (grades 5th-8th) and Upper School (grades 9th-12th). The School’s operating budget is $21 million and its endowment is $48 million. The School is currently in the middle of a $41mm capital campaign that will replace the Upper School.

The primary responsibility of this full time position is to assist in the management and reporting of all financial matters of St. Paul’s School including the appropriate allocation of a $4 million financial aid budget.
Responsible for the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial information
Prepare monthly financial reports including departmental budget reports
Coordinate month end closing process
Complete monthly bank reconciliations
Analyze and review account variances on a monthly basis and when necessary prepare account reconciliations
Oversee the financial aid process
Assist the CFO in preparing the annual budget
Coordinate the yearend financial statement audit with the outside auditors including work paper preparation
Prepare annual surveys required by AIMS, NAIS and other outside organizations
Maintains an orderly accounting filing system, accounting policies and procedures, chart of accounts, and a system of controls over accounting transactions.
Assist with the preparation of schedules for the Form 990
Other duties relevant to the accounting and finance function
Minimum of four years’ experience in accounting and/or finance, non-profit or independent school a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration
Communicate and work effectively with a range of constituents in a courteous and professional manner
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, including generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls for the safeguard of assets
Proficiency with use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the internet
Ability to function well both independently and as a member of a team
Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills
Demonstrated professionalism: ability to meet deadlines, lead initiatives, and be proactive
