National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for an assistant director of communications. This position serves as the lead writer for the school's print and digital publications, including NCS Magazine and the school website, and helps manage its social media channels.
The assistant director will identify stories that convey NCS's unique character and how students, alumnae, faculty, and staff pursue the school's mission and embody its core values; develop those ideas into compelling articles; use the school's social media channels to connect audiences with these published articles; and develop, in coordination with the director of communications, and direct an inbound-marketing strategy that encourages prospective families to inquire about admission.
The assistant director is part of a three-person communications department and will occasionally provide editing, photography, and videography, and otherwise support the department as needed. This position requires occasional work on weekends and evenings and being on call in the early morning.
Requirements include: a bachelor's degree; a minimum of three years of experience producing written communications that are clear, lively, and compelling; and experience and skill managing professional social media accounts, multiple deadlines, and a complex calendar of assignments. NCS is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff. The school therefore seeks applications from candidates who will contribute to an atmosphere in which all are valued and supported.
Interested candidates should send an electronic application that includes a brief cover letter, résumé, samples of published written work (print or web-based), not to exceed 10 pages, and the names and contact information of three references. Please submit these materials as one combined attachment, in PDF format, to NCSEmployment@cathedral.org with a subject line of “Assistant Director of Communications.”
