Blake is seeking candidates for a full-time position in the Office of Admissions, primarily responsible for admission and enrollment in grades pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. The Early Childhood Admissions Coordinator will be a key part of a six-person admission team that manages PK-12 admission and enrollment at Blake.
The ideal candidate will be someone experienced in early childhood education and child development who also has experience in or keen instincts for independent school admission work. Complementary personal characteristics will include the ability to make meaningful relationships with families exploring independent school education; the cultural competency to work productively with families from a diversity of backgrounds; the temperament for contributing positively to an ambitious, fast-paced team; and the intrinsic motivation and drive to meet annual admission and enrollment goals. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on April 2, 2018. Blake will typically cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Admission and Enrollment The Early Childhood Admissions Coordinator at Blake manages all aspects of the admission process for families seeking entrance to Blake’s earliest grades, starting with initial contact and through all steps necessary to complete an application. The role also includes staffing and managing admission events throughout the year, collaborating with the Lower School faculty and administration to establish an annual schedule of applicant testing and observation activities, and organizing and overseeing the admission review committee for PK and K applicants.
Outreach Growing the PK and K applicant pool to levels sufficient to maintain full enrollment is an important goal of the position. This aspect of the role will require collaboration with admissions colleagues and Office of Communications staff to help create an effective annual outreach plan to support enrollment goals. Specific outreach activities are expected to include building connections with local early childhood education and daycare centers, managing existing outreach events, identifying and creating new opportunities for outreach, collaboration with other area schools, and cultivation of current parents who serve as word-of-mouth promoters for Blake.
The successful candidate for this position will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Strong candidates should also bring evidence of a lively curiosity, a sense of entrepreneurship, generative thinking skills, discretion and diplomacy. Equally important is a professional history of being highly organized, deft at project management, and able to prioritize among responsibilities and meet deadlines.
