The Office of Admission at Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon’s Rock seeks a conscientious and creative professional to identify and recruit bright, highly motivated, and passionate students.
For 50 years, Simon's Rock has occupied a unique space in the educational landscape, practicing the simple yet radical idea that many students are ready for college at a younger age. Simon’s Rock is the only institution of higher learning to offer students the opportunity to complete high school and college in six years instead of the traditional eight. Students may enter Bard Academy for 9th and 10th grade and then matriculate into the College, or apply to enroll in the College after completing the tenth or eleventh grade at any high school. Bard College at Simon’s Rock offers the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree, and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. The campus is located in Great Barrington in the heart of the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Responsibilities include participation in a full range of admission activities including representing the College and the Academy to a variety of outside constituencies, prospect management, developing and implementing recruitment strategy, interviewing applicants and working with families, reviewing applications, and working closely with Simon’s Rock students, staff, and faculty. Among the highest priorities for this position are skills and interest in marketing and communications, advising families on financial aid issues, outreach to independent educational consultants and school placement counselors, and/or collaboration in alumni outreach. Candidates with relevant experience in secondary or higher education are welcome.
Bard College at Simon’s Rock is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. Please send résumé and cover letter to Cindi Jacobs, Director of Admission, by email with “admission counselor” in the subject line (firstname.lastname@example.org) or fax (413-541-0081). No phone calls, please. Position open until filled.
The successful candidate must be energetic, creative, organized, flexible, and open-minded, must demonstrate independent initiative and also work very well as part of a team, and must possess outstanding strategic thinking, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidates must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel. B.A. and driver’s license required. Admission and recruiting experience in a liberal arts college or independent secondary school environment strongly desired.
About Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon's Rock
Bard Academy students are a diverse bunch, but have a few things in common: intellectual curiosity, an independent spirit, and a love of learning. We haven’t condensed the high school experience; instead, we’ve created a program that takes a collegiate approach to learning from day one. After the 10th grade, all students in good academic and social standing are admitted to Bard College at Simon’s Rock.
