Burke’s is in the midst of an exciting phase of its communications and fundraising initiatives. Through a newly invigorated digital communications infrastructure, a steadily growing culture of philanthropy, and a supportive faculty and staff, this new position will help Burke’s flourish in the social media and multimedia realm and will support a growing philanthropy program, with particular emphasis on an ongoing capital campaign. We are looking for someone who is creative, organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with digital media and willing to learn new skills, and who has excellent verbal and written communications to help document and share the daily life of the school and garner support of its award-winning programs. Relevant skills include website management, writing, and photography, with room to grow for a candidate looking to improve their video and graphic design skills.
The Communications and Advancement Associate reports to the Director of Communications. This position will work in conjunction with the Director of Communications and the Director of Advancement to provide support for the campaign and other advancement initiatives as well as everyday communications needs at Burke’s. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with interest in learning about communications and fundraising in the educational sector. The ideal candidate has interest in a variety of visual and written communication platforms and wants to learn more in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
This position is temporary for approximately 15 months, running through June 30, 2019, but in an office where there is room for professional growth.
The Communications and Advancement Associate will help tell the story of the school on a daily basis.
Assist in designing print and digital media
Create content for email blasts and social media
Provide photo and video support for events and assist in editing images and video for web
Work with staff and parent committees on online content and provide user support for the Burke’s internal website
Assist in creating and supporting webpages for key events, programs, and campaigns
Perform copywriting and proofreading tasks
The Communications and Advancement Associate will support the fundraising activities of the Advancement Office.
Provide support for key fundraising programs such as the Capital Campaign, Annual Fund, Grandparents’ Council and the Eighth-Grade Class Gift
Build an understanding of and create content for capital campaign communication, such as campaign newsletters, donor proposals and communication, and stewardship/communication materials
Create fundraising-related presentations for high-level solicitations and volunteer committees
Assist Director of Advancement in preparation for board and campaign steering committee meetings
Prepare stewardship materials for leadership donors as requested
Prepare proposals for solicitations and giving opportunities
Create donor research profiles as needed
Bachelor’s degree is required
Professionalism and confidentiality is mandatory
Proven strong writing and editorial skills
Knowledge of independent school or non-profit communications a plus
Knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge database a plus
Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands
Participating in the work of a small development/communications staff, assisting whenever necessary, branching out to other areas if needed
Comfort with basic website content management systems and working in HTML
Ability to work well in collaboration with a variety of individuals
Strong organizational skills
