The Communications Associate reports to the Director of Communications and will assist in the development and production of creative concepts for Burke’s print and digital publications, as well as fundraising materials. Burke’s is on the cusp of opening up a $20-million capital campaign to our full community, so this position will work in conjunction with the Director of Communications and the Director of Advancement to provide support both for the campaign as well as everyday communications needs at Burke’s. Relevant skills include website management, photography, video, and graphic and digital design.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with interest in learning about communications and marketing in the nonprofit and educational sectors. The ideal candidate has interest in a variety of visual and written communication platforms and wants to learn more in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
This position is currently temporary and will tentatively run through June 30, 2018.
The Communications Associate will help tell the story of the school on a daily basis.
Assist in designing print and digital materials
Create content for email blasts and social media
Provide photo and video support for events and assist in editing images and video
Work with staff and parent committees on online content and provide user support for the Burke’s internal website
Assist in creating and supporting webpages for key events, programs, and campaigns
Sit in with and take minutes for the Board Marketing Committee
Perform copywriting and editing tasks
Bachelor’s degree is required
Proven strong writing and editorial skills
Knowledge of independent school or non-profit communications a plus
Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands
A small advancement/communications staff means participating in each other’s work, assisting whenever necessary, branching out to other areas if needed
Photo/video production experience a plus
Comfort with basic website content management systems
Ability to work well in collaboration with a variety of individuals
Strong organizational skills
Basic knowledge of coding preferred but not required
